Carol, a participant in a corporate wellness program we run at Studio One to One, recently came in for her final body composition analysis under the program.  She set an overall goal to lose 50 lbs. in the program since she started back in January.  She outdid herself and lost 53!

But that’s only half of the story.  She has been such an inspiration that her husband Steve started the program a few months back to join her.  To date, their household is roughly 100 lbs. lighter.

So what do you do when you see success like this?  If I were someone trying to lose weight, I’d copy it.  So I’ll share with you what I think are some of the key behaviors that have led to their success to date:

  • They take advantage of the grill.  Steve and Carol have twice weekly “grill fests” where they put lots of lean protein on the grill to use in the days ahead.  Lean protein is key for any weight loss program, but making it convenient can be tough.  So they found this solution and stuck to it.  You might be surprised to see red meat on the grill, but Carol &

  • They never over-think any of it.  Mental blocks can be a huge obstacle in the game of weight loss.  Steve & Carol have been mentally laid back from the beginning, never getting overly disappointed by a plateau week (but instead accepting the challenge to increase their effort in the following week) or by getting complacent following a good week.  They followed the program and trusted the process without over-analyzing it. In fact, sometimes I feel like I have to jump and down a little bit just to get them as excited as they should be about their success!  But hey, I’ll be their cheerleader any old day.
  • They never allowed the naysayers to be an excuse to not follow the plan.  They’ve had several visits with friends/family in the past months who weren’t exactly on board with what they were doing, but they never let that deter them from their goal.
  • They took a “baby step” approach to this.  Yes, we did a major overhaul in the beginning by adding exercise and drastically changing eating habits, but as we went along we took a “work in progress” approach. Over time, as they gained confidence, we added more things to work on, getting closer and closer to the “ideal” healthy habits over time. Feeding your body with the best food possible is always a work a progress and I challenge you, too, to always find one little thing to work on improving.
  • They made it a team effort.  The support system of a spouse, family member, or friend can be key to success for weight loss.  These two tag teamed their way to 100 lbs. of weight loss to date and I think you can see I couldn’t be more proud!

I am going to share Carol’s testimonial with you below, because I want you to see for yourself that her life is changed forever. She didn’t break any quick weight loss records by losing 53 lbs. in 9 months, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that this is weight she’ll never see again. “Working with Studio One to One has been a fantastic experience. I have been a diabetic for a number of years and have had problems with obesity for a long time.  I’ve always known that losing weight would make me feel better but while working with Cedric and Elaina I have become stronger and have had visible weight loss results.  Not only did I lose the amount of weight I set as my goal but I now wear a much smaller clothing size.  I feel like I am not as tired after running around playing with my three year old daughter and I am able to participate in activities with her that I previously would not have even tried.   

A major difference in working with Studio One to One is that I felt like Elaina and Cedric really cared if I was successful.  I have used personal trainers in the past and it didn’t’ seem like they even noticed if I had any success.  I have tried eating “better” in the past and had small victories but it never seemed to last.  At Studio One to One they are very helpful in figuring out how to make your new lifestyle work.  During previous attempts at “dieting” I was frequently hungry. The nutrition plan at Studio One to One encourages several small meals during the day.  Since each meal had a balance of nutrients, I have very rarely found myself hungry and this has had a lot to do with my success.   Elaina was great to help with nutrition counseling and by using the Calorie King program I was much more aware of the content of the foods I was eating.  Now I feel like I can make more confident nutrition choices and even when dining out I can find nutritious options. 

I loved the training environment.  Being very obese it felt more comfortable doing my workouts in private.  At first workouts were very challenging but Cedric utilized exercise that helped me gain strength and very soon it was certainly something I could achieve.   Elaina and Cedric have always been so supportive and encouraging that it was much easier to stay on track with the program.  The biggest difference for me with this program is the accountability.  Frequent weight checks that provided information about not only weight loss but body composition kept me motivated to continue on the program.  Utilizing the physiograph let me know that not only was I losing fat but I was also keeping muscle and strengthening my bones.

So after being on the journey for almost nine months I can honestly say that I am ready to continue on my own.   I have learned so much about nutrition and strength training.  I have become strong enough to work out effectively.  I have the confidence to keep going on my own.  Thanks to everyone at Studio One to One.  I couldn’t have done it without you.   “
